Murmur (2004)
(writer)
“Small town South Africans Sage and Billy are desperate to get away from it all – she to pioneer tropical ice sculpture, he to procrastinate with strange inventions while avoiding writing the great South African novel. They settle on a Mozambican beach near a small village, which is blighted by a strange ancestral curse. Their relationship, too, is afflicted. Into this steamy setting, in which quite literally anything could happen, comes Joao, a gorgeous Brazillian who throws testosterone and capoeira into the mix. ” – IMDB
We shot Murmur over 8 weeks in Mozambique with an awesome cast and crew. The making of this movie was a truly magical experience. I co-wrote and produced the movie with Gray Hofmeyr, who directed the film.
Murmur aired on M-Net (South African cable channel) as part of their ‘Movie of the Month’ series.
The Good Provider (2006)
(writer)
The Good Provider was one of 8 films made for SABC as part of the Heartlines initiative. (I also co-wrote another film in the series, The Other Woman.)
The Good Provider was produced by Curious Pictures and won a Rockie Award at the 28th Banff World Television Awards in Canada in 2007 and a few other accolades. Back home The Good Provider was nominated for nine SAFTA (South African Film and Television Awards), including Best Script, in 2007.
Hopeville (2008)
(writer)
In 2008 I contributed as scriptwriter to another Heartlines project: a 6 episode mini-series called Hopeville. The mini series went on to win a Rose’Dor in Switzerland and a coveted nomination at the International Emmy’s in New York City.
Heartlines aims to make a meaningful difference in South Africa, and I’m particularly proud of the small contribution I have made as a scriptwriter for a few of their television films and series. As Heartlines CEO, Dr Garth Japhet said, “With this film, and the previous series of eight award-winning values-based films, Heartlines is making a significant contribution to building the social fabric of South Africa.”
